Butterfly Valves

Browse industrial butterfly-valve routes for isolation or control duties. The correct selection depends on the pipework, medium and complete operating conditions; a catalogue label alone does not confirm suitability, certification, stock or availability.

Wafer and lugged butterfly-valve routes

A wafer valve is installed between compatible pipe flanges and retained by the flange bolting. It is a compact route, but the flange standard, pressure rating, gasket arrangement and installation instructions must match the exact valve. Browse the PV57 wafer butterfly valve and the manual fully lined PTFE wafer valve as representative catalogue routes.

A lugged or tapped body provides lugs around the body for the flange bolting. Some exact models may be suitable for specified end-of-line duties, sometimes at a reduced rating, but this must never be assumed from the body style alone. See the manual lugged and tapped PTFE-lined route.

Resilient-seated and PTFE-lined selection

Resilient-seated catalogue routes include NBR and EPDM options. Selection must consider the medium and concentration, normal and maximum temperature, pressure, cleaning conditions, abrasion and every wetted material, including the body, disc, shaft, seat or liner and seals.

Fully lined PTFE routes may be considered where chemical resistance is a key requirement, subject to the exact valve construction and complete duty. Use the PTFE-lined butterfly-valve selection guide and the chemical-processing application page as starting points, then confirm the final wetted-material set against current technical evidence.

Manual, pneumatic and electric operation

Manual levers or gear operators may suit local isolation. Pneumatic and electric actuators can support remote operation, automation and control where the complete valve package is correctly sized. Representative actuated catalogue routes include the pneumatic double-acting wafer PTFE-lined valve; broader options are available in the actuator category.

For actuated duties, state whether the valve is for isolation, on/off cycling or modulating control. Include the required fail position, available air supply or electrical supply, operating speed, control signal, solenoid arrangement, limit switches or position feedback, and any positioner or manual-override requirement. Valve torque, actuator sizing and accessory compatibility must be confirmed for the selected package.

Information needed for selection and quotation

  • Medium, concentration and any solids, fibres or abrasive content.
  • Normal, minimum and maximum pressure and temperature.
  • Nominal size, pipe schedule where relevant, and required face-to-face arrangement.
  • Flange standard, pressure class and whether end-of-line service is required.
  • Preferred body, disc, shaft, seat or liner materials, with reasons for any restriction.
  • Isolation, on/off or modulating duty and expected cycle frequency.
  • Manual, pneumatic or electric operation, required fail position and control accessories.
  • Required approvals, certificates, inspection documents and project standards.
  • Quantity, delivery location and required date.

Approval and certification evidence is product-specific. Some catalogue items are described as WRAS approved, but current evidence, scope, size coverage and applicability must be checked for the exact product before selection or quotation.
